Diwali Special || 5 Days of Wish fulfillment

In our Vedic culture 5 days from Dhan teras to Bhai dooj are considered very auspicious to achieve desired results. This year they are falling between 17-October 2017 to 21-Oct-2017.

Besides the Lakshmi Pujan and other Puja that you do every year as per your family traditions, you may also do one or more of the following rituals:

1. ·        For continuous prosperity – start from 17th Oct’2017 Dhan teras to Bhai dooj. Take a piece of camphor, one laung and one big ilayachi (black cardamom). Burn it in earthen diya in worship area and also chant “SHRIM” for 108 times sitting there.
2. ·        To get desired job/ promotion/ clients – Take kaccha sut (sacred white thread), janeu), sprinkle some turmeric powder over it and few drops of water and make this thread Yellow thread. Now take 21 big ilayachi and create a beautiful garland for lord Lakshminarayan with this yellow thread and 21 big ilayachi. Offer this garland to lord on during Lakshmi Pujan.
3. ·        Make kheer (pudding of rice and milk) on Diwali day to offer to Lord LakshmiNarayan. This Prasad should be consumed by only family members.
4. ·        To get forever wealth worship Ma Lakshmi with lord Narayan together. Astrologically Ma Lakshmi is Venus means maya and we can control this maya only by intelligence which is represented by Lord Vishnu. Both Lakshmi Narayan should be seated on Garuda. That picture is perfect for worship. Garuda is a vehicle of Narayan. When Lord Vishnu was in Ram avatar and during fight with Ravan days. Lord Ram and Lakshman  were entangled in “Naag pash” by Meghnad. That time Garuda cut the ties of snakes and let Lord get free from nag pash. So Garuda got blessing from Lord Ram to help us to untie the karmic bondage.
5. ·        On the night of Diwali (19-10-2017)  chant as many times as you can any Lakshmi mantra or shree sukta. You can chant “ॐ श्री महालक्ष्म्यै च विद्महे विष्णु पत्न्यै च धीमहि तन्नो लक्ष्मी प्रचोदयात् ॐ” or “ॐ श्रीं ह्रीं श्रीं कमले कमलालये प्रसीद प्रसीद ॐ श्रीं ह्रीं श्रीं महालक्ष्मयै नम:॥“. These are two powerful Lakshmi Mantras.
6. ·        Always do prayer in present continuous form. Future tense always stay in future. For example wish “With your blessings my Lord and Mother Lakshmi, I am rich and wealthy” in place of “I want to be rich and wealthy”
7. ·        If you feel stagnant in career growth – Buy one lock with keys before 17th October. On 19th October – Diwali day take this lock with keys at any churaha and keep it there and return to home. Note – Do not check lock how it works by opening it and also don’t allow shopkeeper to show its functioning by opening it. You need to just purchase locked (close) with keys and drop it. Rest let the Universe do.
8. ·        Try to keep the ladies of the house – mother, wife and daughter happy in these five days especially. They represent Venus. If they are sad due to any reason, no remedy can give fruitful results.
9. ·        Offer white flower  (Mogra or kevda) itra to Lord Lakshmi Narayan in these five days. You can also use these but in that case use two separate bottles. One for Lord and one for you.  I pray to Lord lakshmiNarayan to bless you with Health, Wealth, peace, Harmony and all your desires get fulfilled.

Some notable features in his signature are as follows:

1. Lot of oval curves in his signature signifying Moon.

Prosperity and Poverty Consciousness

When the great leader, Rahul Gandhi said, “Poverty is just a state of mind. It does not mean the scarcity of food, money or material things. If one possesses self-confi

dence, then one can overcome poverty,” nobody understood him. He was actually speaking about different type of poor and everybody understood that he is speaking about the financially poor. He was referring to those who suffer from poverty consciousness. While the population below the poverty line may be around 30%, the population who suffer from poverty consciousness is well over 90%. A person may not be poor but yet suffer from poverty consciousness. Similarly someone may not be rich and yet be endowed with prosperity consciousness.

Sometimes, great leaders say something so profound that it takes a lot of thinking to understand it.

Before delving deeper into the two types of consciousness let us try to distinguish between them. A poor person is someone who lives in scarcity and rich person lives in abundance. Most of us are between these two extremes. Our consciousness decides in which direction we are heading. Poverty 

consciousness takes us towards scarcity and prosperity consciousness takes us towards abundance.

Most people, more than 90%, live with poverty consciousness without realizing it. Each day this consciousness is driving them towards scarcity. The good news is that one can easily switch the consciousness from poverty to prosperity.  What is needed is space programming (Vastu) and some amount of discipline to follow some simple meditative practices.

Vastu Myth: Brahmsthan should be Open to Sky

Like in Feng Shui, Vastu too had different recommendations for the kings and the citizens. The objective was that the citizens should always live in the shadows of the king and should never become as powerful and rich as them. This resulted in Vastu texts recommending that the central portion of the house (called brahmsthan) to be open. Technically, brahmsthan is the inner space of a house connected with the outer space.

King’s palace too had open central courtyard but the palaces were so designed that the king’s residence did not have the central courtyard falling in it. The central courtyard separated their place of residence and place of work.

There are mainly three countries where ancient architecture supported the concept of central courtyard – India, China and Indonesia. The architectures of the west never recommended such a structure.

Mahavastu believes that an open central courtyard leads to evolution of people staying in such houses slows down, they are not ambitious and get easily satisfied by small means. Several case studies have revealed that many of the people who stayed in such houses have not been able to study beyond matriculation while staying in the house.

This is a complete myth and need not be fussed about when making a vastu compliant house.

Vastu Myth: Marriageable girls should sleep in North West

One of the Vastu myths which have become prevalent due to series of distortions in the ancient wisdom of Vastu is that girls of marriageable age should sleep in North West zone of the house such that they get a good groom fast.

Let us see the genesis of this misconception. As per ancient vastu wisdom, North of North West (NNW) is the zone for attraction and newlywed couples should sleep here for enjoying a great married life. Thus in vastu texts this zone is earmarked for “रति गृह” (rati-grah). In business, this zone is recommended for placing finished goods which are not getting sold for a long time. This is to ensure they catch the attraction of the customer such that he gets tempted to buy it immediately.

There are two levels of distortions which have happened, over the time, with this concept:

1.      In their effort simplify Vastu and make it applicable in modern architecture of Indian homes, they reduced the original sixteen zones of Vastu to eight zones due to which NNW got fitted in North West (NW).

2.      Vastu practitioners thought that since goods placed here are immediately sold, similarly girls staying here should get immediately married.

Hence this myth got created and vastu experts started recommending this to their clients.

According to Mahavastu, there are two fundamental flaws in this concept; girls of marriageable age are not commodities which need to be sold and hence the very thought they should sleep in NW is not agreeable, moreover, girls sleeping here may have a strong attraction towards opposite sex leading to other complications in their life.

The Perils of Pink

My daughter has a strong liking for anything pink. If you ask her what color of shoes she would like to have, which color of hat, hairband, wrist watch, or bed, her answer will be the same, “Pink.” If you insist on another color she will say. “Red or Purple”.  So the favourite colors for her are pink, red and purple in that order.

This is not uncommon amongst most girls and ladies. Pink remains their unanimous choice.

There is no problem with their choice of colors except that pink, red and purple are all representative of the fire element.

As per Vastu or Mahavastu, the zones from SE to South belong to Fire and presence of fire in West and North zones creates imbalance of these zones.

When we ordered new furniture for my daughter, I was not aware of MahaVastu and abiding by her wishes we chose purple for it not knowing that purple in West-South West  Zone (where her room is) will affect her studies adversely which incidentally are affected.

If someone who likes their whole room to be filled with pink, then she should not be sleeping in the West and North zones. For them sleeping in South may be fruitful. Sleeping in East and South West may be fruitful or not depending on the strength of these zones with reference to the whole house. I suggest you consult a Mahavastu Expert immediately if you are in a similar situation and feel it is having an effect in studies, relationship or gains in the house.

These days the father-daughter duo is having daily arguments and fights as I have called the painter to remove purple from all her furniture.

Is MahaVastu a Science?

Is MahaVastu a Science?

One question which often comes to mind regarding Vastu is - "Is Vastu a Science?"

Before answering this question with reference to Mahavastu let me first elaborate what classifies a concept or a field as science.

If you recall the times when you studied science in school or college, you will remember that there are 4 pre-requisites for a field to be classified as science: Hypothesis or Logic, Process, Repeatability and documented results.

Let us now elaborate how Mahavastu fulfills the requirements to be science:

Logic: As I wrote in my previous post, Mahavastu is the decoding of the ancient science of Vastu originally originated by Lord Vishwakarma, the architect of Heaven and great cities like Dwarka. By this decoding Dr. Khushdeep Bansal the creator of MahaVastu has removed all myths, superstitions, and distortions which contaminated Vastu and decoded the original sutras to apply them to the contemporary times. Mahavastu explains the logic of Vastushastra in a lucid manner. The decoding is a hypothesis which is based on sound logic.

Process: Scientific experiments have to follow a process and cannot be performed in an ad hoc manner. In Mahavastu, the Mahavastu Experts follow a fixed four step process to perform the analysis and apply remedies.

Repeatability: This is the most important aspect of Science. Many a scientists have failed to get due recognition for their work because they could not successfully repeat their experiments. By repeatability I mean that everytime a same input is applied to a certain condition you will get the same output. For example, everytime when you throw a ball up when standing on the ground and within the earth's environment, the result is that the ball comes down. We all know this is due to gravity. If you change the condition which means that if you are not inside the earth's environment and are standing outside it (it will be impossible to stand there but still let us suppose) and if you throw the ball up, it will not come down. So for the same condition you get the same output for a particular input.

In Mahavastu for a certain situation (a particular set of observations in a livable space), if you apply a particular Vastu Remedy or correction it will always result in the same result whether irrespective of whose house it is.This can be verified only by documenting these experiments (consultations).

Documented Results: These repeated experiments with their inputs, outputs and conditions have to be documented each time it is performed in order to prove this science. Dr. Khushdeep Bansal and his team of more than 200 Mahavastu experts have documented about 10,000 case studies to prove that the decoding is correct and it works each time (repeatability).

Mistakes most Vastu Experts make

Few days back the landlord of a neighboring house visited my home to seek water. He is getting his house renovated. He claimed to be a learned Vastu practitioner and started talking about the vastu defects in my house (as per him) to my wife. He said, "The underground tank is in South East and the pit connecting the house to the sewage line is in North East. You should immediately swap them." My wife thought, "He is making the same mistake as many Vastu Experts make." Audibly she said, "How do we shift it, just lift them and place it at the right place?" He laughed and went away.

In a square plot if the sides are aligned to the cardinal directions i.e. North, South, East and West than the corners would align to the ordinal directions (North-East, South-East, North-West and South-West). Mathematically this does not happen in case of a rectangular plot and most plots are rectangular rather than square.

Mathematically, the four cardinal directions are perpendicular to each other (i.e. 90 degree to each other), similarly, the four ordinal directions are perpendicular to each other. The rules of mathematics do not change if the plot area is square, rectangular or irregular in shape. Still it is a common mistake to consider the corners of a rectangular area as aligned to the ordinal axis. If the plot is north facing one assumes that the right corner is North-East and left corner is North West and accordingly apply the Vastu rules.

Figure 1(b) shows a rectangular plot where the ordinal directions - NE-SW axis and NW-SE axis are not dissecting the corners of the plot but cutting across the longer sides midway between the corner and center of the side. So if you are making the Pooja Room in the front right hand corner you are not actually making it in North East but in a zone between North and North East without knowing it.

Before learning Mahavastu this was the mistake I made and when I was constructing the house the kitchen was made in East of South East and Pooja in East of North East (mine is an East facing plot). The primary reason I find when I reflect why I could not understand this simple concept despite being an engineer by qualification is; over confidence and carelessness. It is much easier to assume that the corners are ordinal directions rather than doing actual measurement of the plot, plotting it on a paper, finding the actual center and mapping the directions mathematically and geometrically.

My guess is that this is the mistake most Vastu experts make.

MahaVastu - What's so Different about it?

When people (outside India) first hear about Vastu, they ask, "What is it?" Let me first start with what is vastu?

Vastu is an ancient Indian science (dating back to about 50 centuries) on Architecture. Vastu covers the rules of designing great residences, business places, palaces, and most importantly temples. The tenets of Vastu were first written by Lord Vishwakarma (considered to be the architect of heaven) in Sanskrit (the mother of most Indian languages).

In ancient times knowledge was transferred from generations to generations verbally and the trend was to link the rules with religious rituals and superstitions such that common men would practice it without argument and compulsarily pass it to the next generation. Not much emphasis was given to documenting the experiences and success stories in a structured manner.

This resulted in a lot of distortion and misinterpretation of what was written by the great Vishwakarma. On the other hand the architecture of the houses and buildings changed in India due to influences from several invasions like Moghul, Portugese and British and also the advancement in building science.

Hence we ended up in a situation where on one hand we had a severely distorted interpretation of Vastu and on the other hand the original text not as-it-is applicable in modern context.

Vastu Practitioners generally took to writing their interpretations as Vastu books which were published in scores in the last decade or so. Vastu experts applied several short cuts in order to make the tenets of vastu applicable to modern architecture. For example, the original vastu texts talk about a place of Churning butter and a place for storing clarified butter. Since modern homes do not have separate rooms for these purpose the Vastu practitioners removed them from the their text thereby diluting the original rules of architecture.

What was instead needed is the re-interpretation of the original text in modern context. In other words, what was needed is the decoding of the original text as per its applicability in today's time. For example, it was needed to decode why Lord Vishwakarma prescribed to have churning of butter to be done in the room between East and South East or placing clarified butter (ghee) in a room between South and South East.

Dr. Khushdeep Bansal, the creator of Mahavastu did this decoding with help of his gurus in a Gurukul in Maharashtra and several hundred hours of meditation. Continuing with the same example, he decoded that the zone between East and South East is for Anxiety and Churning of the mind and to balance it Lord Vishwakarma recommended that butter be chuirned here as once churning is done at a physical level in this zone, it will not result in undue anxiety and churn in the mind.

It is this decoding which makes Mahavastu different from the traditionally practiced concept of Vastu.
